It adjusts in seconds to hold the piano lid at any angle from about 45º  to beyond vertical. To adjust the prop to stand the lid up higher, simply pull the end of the cord upward in an arc, then downward. The adjustment is instant and secure -- it will not slip. The prop is made of hardwood, covered with thick leather to protect the piano's finish.
